What is this presentation about?
A.PART presents its school library renovation project in Kenya. As a young organization, this was their very first initiative. It represents the start of what will hopefully be a lasting partnership with the Kirindon community and the Kimintet School – with many more plans already on the horizon.
This is a public school in rather poor condition, with no official renovation planned. Together with families and the school board, a participatory process was initiated through a series of meetings. This made it possible to gain valuable insights and better understand the needs of the community in order to define the renovation priorities.
In a world that tends to focus on new construction, it’s encouraging to see projects like this—where thoughtful, small-scale interventions with modest budgets but great care in planning and execution can lead to the creation of beautiful and functional spaces.
The library is a spacious, 60 m² multipurpose room divided into different areas: a reception, a cozy reading and relaxation space, a library with space for individual study, a play area, and a zone for group learning.
The project was completed in 2024 with a total budget of €7,000.
