What is this presentation about?

Two aspects were of particular importance in the health center project in Keemalung, Nepal: the remote and difficult-to-access location, which made the construction process significantly more complex and costly; and the decision to raise the intended building standard beyond what is typically found in high-altitude regions of Nepal.

All partners agreed that one of the top priorities for the health center was earthquake-resistant construction. The devastating 2015 earthquake had revealed just how vulnerable buildings can be when they aren’t properly planned and built. This decision, though essential, meant that even more materials — especially cement and steel — had to be brought to the remote site.

The building, with a floor area of approximately 100 m², features a layout typical for a health center, with various rooms — such as for medical staff, storage, and a delivery room — arranged around a central waiting area. An additional toilet facility is located next to the building.

The project was implemented in collaboration with the local organization Nepal Helping Education Foundation of Nepal, Gecotec e.V. and DESWOS e.V.. It was completed with a total budget of €105,000 and officially opened in 2024.
