What is this presentation about?

We-Building e.V.’s second primary school project in Ghana — this time in an urban setting in Koforidua — built heavily on the experience gained from the first project. The team aimed to apply lessons learned, repeat elements that worked well, and revise aspects that proved less effective. The main difference this time was the use of full timber frame construction, with no concrete used above the foundation slab. This helped speed up the building process. Since high-quality wood is still available in Ghana at reasonable prices, this project also served as a small test to explore whether timber construction could be a suitable option for public buildings like this one.

The project (River of Blessing Academy) consists of six classrooms and a toilet building, and was carried out in cooperation with the local organization ROBF. It was completed in 2020 with a total budget of €76,000.
Although several volunteers were originally meant to be on-site to help with supervision and documentation, their presence had to be scaled back due to COVID restrictions. Still, everything went smoothly — thanks to daily check-ins and the steady flow of photos shared throughout the project.
